Ten people were missing after a cruiser car, carrying 12 passengers, plunged into the Bhakra canal amid dense fog in Haryana’s Fatehabad on Friday night. The rescue operations continued late into the night, with officials managing to save a 10-year-old boy and recovering the body of a 55-year-old man.
The passengers were returning after taking part in a program in Punjab. Around 10 pm, while crossing a bridge near Sardarewala village, the driver reportedly lost control due to poor visibility due to the thick fog. As a result, the vehicle veered off the bridge and fell into the canal.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jarnail Singh, jumped out of the vehicle just before it plunged into the water, escaping unhurt.
However, 12 other passengers were still inside the vehicle when it fell into the canal. Rescue teams managed to save 10-year-old Armaan, while the body of Balbir Singh, 55, was recovered from the canal.
After getting the information about the accident, local residents, along with police, rushed to the site to assist in the rescue efforts. Divers and rescue personnel continued their search throughout the night.
