Bhopal Police arrested a man from Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh for allegedly abetting a girl’s suicide. Nitish Kumar Dubey, who was living at the Kumbh disguised as a seer, was arrested after the police adopted a similar disguise.
Police filed the girl’s suicide case on January 31. Investigations identified Dubey as the accused, who had also molested the minor. Police registered a case under sections 107 and 74 BNS and 9/10 Pocso Act and launched a search operation.
Rural SP Pramod Kumar Sinha announced a Rs 10,000 bounty for Dubey’s arrest. The police team initially went to his village in Bihar, but found he had fled to Prayagraj Kumbh.
Upon reaching Kumbh, police discovered that Dubey was living disguised as a seer among the crowd. The police team also disguised themselves as seers to track him. Before they could arrest him at Kumbh, Dubey left for his hometown.
Police followed him to Alipur and arrested him at his residence. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He will be presented in court tomorrow.
