A 19-year-old homoeopathy student in Gujarat allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on Thursday. Police have arrested four professors in connection with the case.
The student was a first-year BHMS student at Merchant Homoeopathic Medical College in Gujarat’s Basna. She was originally from Nagwada village in Surendranagar district. Her family alleged that she had faced harassment from her professors and that it had led to her suicide.
Her father filed a complaint at the local police station, naming four professors and the principal. He alleged that one professor had threatened to fail her in exams, another had forced her to repeat written work and stand for long periods, and a third had made inappropriate remarks. When she reported the harassment to the principal, he told her to tolerate it if she wanted to continue studying.
Police in Mehsana have taken the professors and the principal into custody. Deputy Superintendent Milap Patel said an investigation is underway.
