Actor Saif Ali Khan, who returned to his home in Bandra’s Satguru Sharan building after getting discharged from Lilavati Hospital, was seen waving as he walked out of the hospital comfortably. However, the actor’s speedy recovery sparked a debate as many, including Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane, questioned if he was actually attacked. Amid the doubts, doctors have provided an explanation for the same.
Dr Deepak Krishnamurthy, Bengaluru-based cardiologist, shared a video of his mother walking with a fractured foot in a cast, just hours after undergoing spine surgery.
He wrote on X, “For people doubting if Saif Ali Khan really had a spine surgery (funnily even some doctors!). This is a video of my mother from 2022 at the age of 78y, walking with a fractured foot in a cast and a spine surgery on the same evening when spine surgery was done. A younger fit person can recover even faster. For doctors who are doubting Saif’s recovery… all I want to tell you is to get better exposure.”
Dr Krishnamurthy then explained that the actor only had a leak and a tear.
He added, “And what my mother had was far worse. A fractured bone in the spine. What Saif had was only a cerrebrospinal fluid leak and a tear in duramater, which was repaired. My mom was discharged the next day!”
He concluded, “Nowadays, people who have had cardiac bypass surgeries walk and climb stairs on 3rd 4th day! Please educate yourselves about things before coming on social media and proudly displaying your ignorance! Talk to experts, read up and learn.”
On Wednesday, Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane questioned the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, asking whether the incident was genuine or if the 54-year-old actor was “just acting”.
Speaking during an event in Pune, Rane said, “When I saw Saif Ali Khan after he was discharged, I doubted whether he was really stabbed or just acting.”
‘BEAUTY OF MODERN MEDICINE’
Dr Amit Thadhani, who is a surgeon, also commented on the actor’s remarkable recovery and termed it “beauty of modern medicine”.
“Saw the video of Saif walking out of hospital in good condition. That’s the beauty of modern medicine,” he wrote on X.
He explained, “Dural puncture with CSF leak – close the defect, remove drain in 2-3 days and discharge. Nowadays, major spine surgery itself has become a one day stay with no bed rest needed.”
“Most likely exploration of the neck wound would have been negative for major injury with only suturing needed, no stay required for that too. Neck dressing is visible on the video. I don’t see anything fishy as far as treatment is concerned,” Dr Thadhani further said.
One user asked, “Seeing broken knife, how deep would have been the wound??”
He replied, “My guess is he was stabbed in the back while he was trying to hold the attacker off. Hence most likely it’s gone obliquely paraspinal where there is a lot of muscle that can cause the blade to break off without penetrating into the spinal canal. Had he been stabbed in the back upfront, it would have gone dead straight, hit the bone and stopped, or in worst case gone through or next to the disc into the spinal cord. Sorry for a bit technical explanation.”
Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital after he was stabbed by a burglar at his Bandra house in the early hours on January 16. Five days later, the actor returned to his home while the attacker was arrested and sent to police custody.
