Sri Rama Sene members vandalised a salon in Karnataka’s Mangaluru today over alleged “illegal activities”. The group, led by Sri Rama Sene activist Prasad Attavar, barged into the premises, destroyed property and furniture, broke glass, alleging illegal activities occurred at the salon.
They said the salon, by the name of ‘Colors Unisex Salon’ was a massage centre where immoral activities took place.
Using the targeted centre, they demanded all massage centres across Mangaluru to be shut down.
According to a press note released by the police, a group of nine-ten persons “unlawfully” entered the premises of Colors Unisex Salon at 11.51 am and “caused significant damage to the property located near Aditya Complex, Bejai KSRTC.”
“They allegedly verbally abused the staff, accusing them of immoral activities, and issued threats to harm them further,” the police said in the statement. According to them, the group reportedly scattered and damaged products and other equipment in the salon.
“Two staff members were also assaulted during the incident. One of the intruders was seen recording the incident on a camera,” the statement added.
The footage of the attack, leaked to the media, showed a group of men walking into the salon and assaulting the staff there. The video also showed the men intimidating the women staff and walking around the salon destroying property.
The police registered a case in Barke Police Station, based on the complaint by the salon owner, and began an investigation into the matter. They also took Attavar into custody.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, said they were investigating the incident and further details are awaited.
Meanwhile, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said, although the purpose of the raid was yet unknown, he directed the police to immediately arrest “those who conducted the raid.”
“Directions have been given to take action as per the law. Such acts should not happen. No one should obstruct anyone’s business.
Everyone has the right to work. No one should take the law into their own hands. We will identify who carried out the raid.
The department will decide on the necessary actions,” he said.
He also clarified that if there were such parlours involved in illegal activities, people should file a complaint.
“It is not right for us to take the law into our own hands,” he said.
“If a complaint is filed, the police will take action. The corporation issues trade licences. If the conditions set are not complied with, action will be taken,” he clarified.
