Saif Ali Khan Attacked News LIVE: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan smiled at TV cameras and waved his bandaged hand on Tuesday afternoon after being discharged from hospital, giving much relief to his fans. While the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ actor is finally home, all eyes are now on his attacker Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.
Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested for breaking into the actor’s home and stabbing him last Thursday (January 16). A report in Times of India quoted a police officer as saying that Shehzad chose Saif’s residence “randomly”; “all he wanted was to steal from someone rich and escape to Bangladesh with the loot to help his ailing mother”.
The officer further said that the immediate provocation for the crime was that Shehzad lost a housekeeping job at a Thane restaurant on December 15 when its contract with the manpower agency ended. “He found himself nearly penniless. Of the entire amount he earned, he used to keep only Rs 1,000 for himself, and send the rest for his mother’s medical treatment,” the officer was quoted, adding that his financial situation further deteriorated when he was found stealing and the restaurant owner terminated his employment. “Having studied only till Class 2, he found another menial job later,” the official added.
Shehzad is believed to have entered India by crossing Dawki river on India-Bangladesh border at Meghalaya, paying Rs 10,000 to an agent to have him taken to Assam. “The agent helped him board a bus to Kolkata, where he stayed for three days before taking a train to Mumbai in May. The agent also helped him get a SIM card. Once in Mumbai, he wandered aimlessly for three days, living on the roadside. He got in touch with Pandey through another person and got the Worli restaurant job in June,” TOI quoted police, adding that they are on the trail of the agent.
