Two high court lawyers drowned after their car lost control and fell into a pond in Lucknow, police said on Saturday.
The dead lawyers have been identified as Advocates Kuldeep Kumar Awasthi (40) and Shashank Singh (37), who were standing counsel and brief holder of the high court, respectively.
A standing counsel represents the government during the hearing of cases in the high court, while a brief holder assists in preparing legal documents related to a case(s).
The accident occurred on Friday night when a car, bearing registration number UP 32 NE 1110, lost control and sank into a pond in the Chinhat police station area of Lucknow.
On Saturday morning, locals alerted the authorities, prompting police and firefighters to rush to the scene and begin a rescue operation. The submerged car was pulled out of the pond, and during the process, the bodies of both advocates were recovered.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and have launched an investigation into the incident.
