A 9-year-old boy, Altaf Hosen Ghorami, successfully underwent critical four-hour heart surgery at JIMS (Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences) Hospital in West Bengal.
Altaf’s condition came to light during a ‘Sebashray’ health camp when his father presented medical reports indicating severe heart complications.
After an advanced diagnosis at a Model Camp in Diamond Harbour, it was revealed that Altaf suffered from cyanotic heart disease caused by a hole in his heart.
Diamond Harbour TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee ensured the boy’s immediate admission to JIMS. On Saturday (January 18), a team of 20–25 specialists, including surgeons and nurses, performed the life-saving surgery.
Sharing the update on X, Banerjee expressed gratitude to the medical team and shared that Altaf is now recovering well.
“I am relieved to share that Altaf is now out of danger. With proper post-operative care, he will soon be back on his feet, ready to embrace life with renewed vigour. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire medical team for their expertise, dedication, precision and kindness in handling this mammoth responsibility of saving a child’s life,” Abhishek Banerjee wrote in an X post.

The ‘Sebashray’ initiative, launched by Banerjee earlier this month, provides free healthcare services to over 23 lakh people in Diamond Harbour through health camps.
