The minister was on his way to an official event when the cop opened fire near Gandhi Chowk, Brajrajnagar, according to the police. The minister was shot by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gopal Das, who is stationed at the Gandhi Chowk police outpost, according to sub-divisional police officer (Brajrajnagar) Gupteswar Bhoi. However, it is still unknown.

In his testimony, Das stated that he and his family owned 80 automobiles, most of which were commercial, in addition to having a revolver, a double-barreled pistol, and a rifle.
